George Murphy
Surrealism
George Murphy began his career as a professional artist, initially taking his inspiration from the surrealist, René Magritte. Though, Murphy quite quickly dropped the full-fledged aspects of altered reality in his work, his paintings have always contained a degree of mystery and of heightened reality. Surrealist, though, remains a “first love,” and Murphy revisits it from time to time, often through collage and, more recently, with a series of small panel paintings of “floating trees.”
